Switch It Up

I spend a lot of time in my blue chair, probably too much time. I tend to stay inside, at home, and not socialize much. With this project I wanted to continue to explore my tendency to just sit in my chair and think about how I could break that habit. The heart blanket is essential to my blue chair experience, so I knew that needed to come with me. I also felt it would be an interesting contrast against the grays of campus and the dull shades of the MU. The blanket actually seemed to almost fit against the bright grass at the park, but it definitely seemed out of place on campus. I carried my Nintendo Switch as well to give myself something to do and to show that although I’ve slowly moved myself to be around more people, I’m still not connected to them because I’m bundled up playing my game.

I ran into some logistics issues with this project. Originally I wanted my blue chair to travel with me, but the poor thing is too old and well-worn to survive multiple location changes. Luckily removing the blue chair didn't detract from my performance and actually communicated my idea better. With this project I learned how to plan out a public performance within a short period of time, and I had the chance to adapt my idea in the face of technical difficulties.
